We have described the approach used in our study to interview poststroke patients with communication difficulties to highlight the weaknesses of not having a good prior understanding of working with this patient group. Audio recording as a blanket means of data collection is inadequate for interviewing patients with aphasia, and utilizing methods such as video recording [7,8] or amending the question material [9] would have been beneficial in strengthening this research.
